Discover Abita Springs: A Natural Retreat and Conservation Hub

Abita Springs, known for its peaceful atmosphere and healing waters, was once home to a Choctaw village drawn to its magical spring. Today, the town is reconnecting with its roots through the Abita Springs Conservation Area and Nature Center project in the heart of historic downtown.

The goal of the Conservancy is to protect the Abita River ecosystem, offering the community and visitors opportunities to explore the habitat preserve. This project supports biodiversity and promotes awareness of the importance of preserving natural spaces for future generations.

Thanks to a grant from the Outdoors Forever Program, the town has acquired 8.84 acres, including an education center and meeting space. Formerly a hummingbird research station, the property features nature trails, a pollinator garden, and access to the Abita River. This addition complements the existing 21.34-acre parcel.

Activities include birdwatching, hiking, nature photography, and community education. By removing invasive plants and litter, we protect water quality, preserve aquatic ecosystems, and maintain clean water for the region.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Abita Springs Nature Foundation relies on donations and volunteer hours, which can count toward matching funds for future grants. Join us in supporting sustainable development and preserving our natural heritage.
